My mind is racing, and my thoughts are cloudy at best as I examine every aspect of my life. What I want is to find a place of rest to quiet my thoughts. I am tired of self-discovery journeys and trying to figure everything out. And therein lies the subtleties of sin. It sneaks into our thoughts under the guise of things like self-care, daily self-affirmations, meditating on things we want to accomplish. The truth is simple God provided for all our cares and wants in His word and a relationship with Him through Christ Jesus.
Self-Care-Exodus- 20:9-10 “You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day, no one in your household may do any work. This includes you and your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you.”
Daily Self-Affirmations- Colossians 3:1-5 “Since you have been raised to new life with Christ set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.”
Meditating on things you want to accomplish- Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
God’s word is clear. Matthew 6:9-13 states, “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation but rescue us from the evil one.”
The next time your thoughts go over the deep end remember, John 14: 15-17, “If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him because he lives with you now and later will be in you.” The more time we spend in the word of God and acknowledging His hand in our lives, the easier it becomes to know His character and to solidify our relationship with Him.
